Bite-proof trays
Food is not necessarily fresh, smoked
or frozen – sometimes it is alive and
kicking! And that places special demands
on the packaging.
The British company Monkfield Nutrition
has some special demands of the
Faerch plastic trays it purchases.
The fact is that the contents of the
trays will be alive! Monkfield Nutrition
breeds crickets, grasshoppers and
other insects which they then sell live
in plastic containers as reptile food, and
this requires the trays used to be of a special quality – otherwise the contents
can simply escape.
After more than 15 years’ collaboration,
the company continues to choose
Færch Plast as its supplier of insect
containers. The trays for the reptile
fodder are produced at Færch Plast’s
factory in Denmark, with Monkfield Nutrition
is itself responsible for punching
breathing holes into the trays before
packing the living insects.
The best in the market
“We seldom bind ourselves to longterm
contracts with suppliers, but we
have made an exception this time. We
have tried out competing products, and
we have no doubts that Færch Plast’s
containers are the best in the market
in terms of quality, durability and value
for money. In fact, we have had customers
who complained when we tried
out other containers, and they demanded
we went back to using trays from
Færch Plast,” explains the director of
Monkfield Nutrition, Joe Wise, who goes
on to say, “They don’t get crushed, have
good ventilation and a tight-fitting lid
with smooth sides when closed, which
prevents the living contents escaping.
Crickets in particular have a habit of
gnawing their way through sharp
corners.”
However, it is not just Monkfield Nutrition’s
customers who benefit from
the efficient trays. Nature and the
environment also benefit from Monkfield’s
choice. The plastic containers are
in fact made from rPET, which means
that they contain around 50 percent
recycled materials.
